Plan of action

Background

An action plan for Peace was formulated at the 21st International Conference held in the Cook Islands in 2000. The plan was further endorsed at the 22nd Conference held in Singapore in 2004.

The 2004 resolution recognised values essential to the attainment of Peace, including:

  • People Power

  • Enhanced Education

  • Affirmative Action

  • Compassionate Connections

  • Economic Empowerment

and noted that PPSEAWA supports conventions and activities throughout the world that work towards a culture of Peace.

2007 ─ 2010 Plan of Action

At the 23rd PPSEAWA International Conference held in Auckland, New Zealand in March 2007, the relationship between attainment of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the achievement of world peace was recognised and discussed, with country groups reporting on those goals they found most appropriate for their own country. After consideration of the results of work done by member countries, it was agreed that all PPSEAWA members should concentrate on MDG 3, "to promote gender equality and empower women" as it underpins the achievement of all others.

Therefore, the PPSEAWA plan of action for 2007 until 2010, when the next International Conference is scheduled to be held in Bali, Indonesia is

To promote gender equality and empower women
